Zoo

By Stuart Haywood

Sci-Fi | Paperback, eBook

My novel, ZOO was first published in 2007. Almost five years before our illustrious colleague. I think it is sad that someone so powerful has to resort to using ideas from us unknowns. This is the first of what has become five in the series so far. Bob Davidson thought that once he had retired from 22 SAS Regiment he would have a peaceful life. He is head keeper at Twyford Zoo in the English countryside. Today is the busiest day of the year, thousands of visitors would take advantage of one of the hottest summers on record. In the early hours of the morning a strange lump of rock falls from the sky and disturbs the tranquility of the pre dawn. His only thought is to contact his old regiment at Hereford to investigate. A team is sent with a Scientist who declares it harmless. Bob reluctantly opens the zoo to the public. Some off duty SAS personnel decide to stay for the rest of the weekend as Bob's guests. What they were unaware of is the effect the meteorite had on the animals especially the Bengal Tiger. By mid morning the zoo is bursting with visitors and one by one the animals develop a behaviour which becomes deadly to any humans. Soon, Bob is drawn into a game of survival withthe other regiment men and a small group of people trying desperately to outwit the animals and stay alive.

Born in Derbyshire, England in the 1950s, I discovered a love of writing quite early in life. I never really pursued it however, as I was involved in music and was touring with a country music band. But when my partner died, I found it hard to continue, as she had always been my inspiration. I did eventually finish Zoo and published it in 2007. There was quite a flurry of sales in the US in September of 2011. Strangely enough, a few months later, a book with the same title and idea was published. I put my writing on the back burner, then thought, "No why should I?" So I began again and produced 5 more novels and 1 non fiction history book on the town where I live. If anyone does read any of my novels, please let me know your thoughts. I always appreciate reader's feedback. As you can imagine, I have little trust or faith in the literary world. Regards, Stuart
